Dear Readers,
A few months ago, I ran a poll on The Zero Waste Memoirs Facebook Page asking each of you to personally recommend conservancy organizations whom you most admire and respect.
My goal was to identify a high-impact organization to which I could start donating 10 percent of this blog’s earnings, in an effort to “put my money where my mouth is” and give back.

My priorities during this search were to identify an organization that is:
- Moving the needle for the environment
- Accountable to a broad range of stakeholders
- A good steward of its funding
- Rated well by charity watchdog organizations
- Loved by my readers and by those who work for this organization
After reviewing your comments and conducting my own research on each of these organizations, I’ve selected The National Parks Conservation Association (NCPA) as this blog’s primary beneficiary! A well-respected, non-partisan organization, the association seeks to “protect and enhance America’s National Park System for current and future generations.”

Working hand-in-hand with park staff, community activists, park advocates, and state and federal legislators, the NCPA can be found promoting legislation that strengthens protections for treasured natural spaces, establishing and enforcing legal safeguards that protect national parks and monuments (especially important during a Trump administration), and mobilizing local communities to do the same. I’m a huge fan, and it sounds like you are too!
At an organizational level, the associations’s priorities include:
- Protecting America’s national parks
- Preserving iconic, inspirational places
- Informing and inspiring the public to stay vigiliant
- Influencing decision-makers in Washington D.C. and beyond
